About the presentation
Data breaches and cyber threats are pervasive in the news. Do you want to learn more about
cybersecurity, who it intends to protect, cybersecurity terminology, and social engineering
attacks? This presentation will cover cybersecurity topics and share information about career pathways that begin with activities as early as middle school level to help develop the cybersecurity workforce of tomorrow.
Coastline College works with an advisory board to gather information about in-demand job
skills for industry and government work roles to assure that our cybersecurity courses meet
current industry needs. Learn about the emerging trends in cybersecurity, hear about
ransomware attacks, and how to reduce your exposure to cyber threats.
About the speaker
Professor West is Department Chair of Computer Information
Systems at Coastline College and teaches cybersecurity and
computer networking courses. Professor West focuses on the
development of education pathways for students to achieve their
goals to become cybersecurity professionals. She enjoys organizing
CyberTech Girls events and GenCyber Girls camp activities for
middle school and high school girls to develop their interest in
cybersecurity and technology. Professor West also assists with
coordination of the Cybersecurity Apprenticeship Program for
Coastline College students to help build the cybersecurity workforce
and to help apprentices prepare for careers in cybersecurity.

Meeting schedule
The OCSTC meetings follow this tentative schedule below. We encourage all attendees to arrive by 6pm to do some informal networking via Zoom. This is a casual event. Yes, students are welcome. Non-members are always welcome.
- 6pm to 6:45pm: Informal networking/virtual happy hour
- 6:45pm to 7pm: OCSTC Administrative Council announcements and introductions
- 7pm to 8:30pm: Presentation, Q&As, Wrap-Up
- Meeting may end early and times above are tentative depending on our group size.
